Preparing for an Interview
Aspire is here to help you from start to finish. Below are helpful tips to help with interview preparation.
Before the Interview
1. Do your research on the company.
If they are publicly traded you should be able to find SEC filings on the Internet. Also, check their website for an investor relations page – you will often find several years of annual reports. While you’re on their website, review all the pages to familiarize yourself with the company and their industry. This should enable you to develop a list of intelligent questions to ask during the interview.
2. Review the position description in detail.
Try to get the most complete job description possible. Ask the hiring manager or recruiter if there is a detailed position that can be forwarded to you in advance of the interview.
3. Review your resume in detail.
Make sure that you are completely familiar with all points on your resume as this will drive questions during the interview.
4. Develop a list of key match-ups between your resume and the position description.
During the Interview
1. Exhibit a positive attitude
2. Start with a good handshake
3. Maintain good eye contact
4. Sell yourself
5. Ask questions to solidify your understanding of the position. These questions should revolve around three main themes:
a. The Company
b. The position
c. The long-term opportunity
6. Ask if they have any additional questions they would like for you to clarify.
7. Assuming that you are interested in the position, tell them directly and provide solid business reasons as to why you are interested in the role.
8. End the interview with a good handshake and thank the hiring manager for his/her time.
After the Interview
Send a follow-up letter or note within 24 hours after the end of the interview. Ensure your spelling is accurate and your grammar is correct. You want your follow up note to enhance your position.
